Sussex Dolphin Project is a volunteer-driven organisation operated by a team of dedicated marine conservationists. Our committed and talented team works across Sussex and are the lifeblood of our ever growing organisation.

Communications Officer (volunteer)

The Role

We are looking for a seasoned communicator, ideally with PR and social media experience (although the role can be divided into two separate PR and social media focuses), to assist with the day-to-day communications activities for Sussex Dolphin Project, including:

  • Managing Sussex Dolphin Project’s social media profiles across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  • Working with local, national and international press to answer incoming queries.
  • Developing stories to drive press coverage around key issues.
  • Working with the wider team to promote Sussex Dolphin Project events and boat trips.
  • Promoting video and photographic content of cetacean sightings across social media and traditional press channels.
  • Working with core Sussex Dolphin Project team to develop communications strategies.
  • Working with corporate partners to develop suitable communications campaigns.
Requirements

Essential

  • Experience of working with local, national and international press.
  • Experience of managing social media profiles across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Proven track record of developing communications campaigns.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Content development experience, e.g. confident in developing social media content through platforms such as Canva.
  • A passion for marine conservation.

Desirable 

  • Ideally located in Sussex.
  • Ideally experience of working with NGOs.
  • Ideally experience of video editing.
  • Ideally experience of working with multiple partner organisations.
  • Ideally experience of paid social media campaigns.
Time commitment
  • 5-10 hours per week.

Events Officer (volunteer)

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to assist with our awareness and outreach events.

The successful candidate will identify and manage events across Sussex, while also communicating with organisers and helping to set up stalls at physical events. The Events Officer will also be required to work with core team members to organise volunteers and work with local councils to deliver beach cleans.

 

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience of events management.
  • Experience of organising volunteers.
  • Experience of driving attendance at events.
  • Driver’s licence and access to vehicle.
  • Availability to attend events in Sussex.

Desirable 

  • Experience of working with and managing relationships with NGOs and local government.
Time commitment
  • 8 – 10 hours per week plus event attendance at weekends.

Our volunteers have the opportunity to educate passengers about our spectacular marine wildlife.
